Implant Procedure

Once a tooth is extracted, there are several subsequent steps. Each step of the procedure is performed at our office using local anesthesia to numb the areas involved. Intravenous sedation can also be done to help remove anxiety.

With each step, you will come back for follow up appointments for us to ensure sufficient healing. With each step, you will be given antibiotics, pain medications, and an antibacterial mouthrinse, along with post-operative care instructions.

Stage I: Bone Grafting

(At time of Extraction, Let Heal for 4-6 Months)

Bone grafting is best if it is done at the time of the extraction. It is a highly successful procedure that involves building up the bone. The bone comes either from your body (another site of your body), or more commonly, by using donor bone. The bone acts as a scaffold for your bone to grow and eventually fill in the desired area.

Stage II: Implant Placement

(4-6 Months After Graft)

After the bone has healed and there is a solid foundation, your implant will be placed. The implant refers to the screw, usually made of titanium, and is placed in the bone. This stage is usually less painful than the first stage. The amount of healing time for the implant to integrate with the bone varies depending on the location of the mouth, density of bone, and your body’s healing ability.

Stage III: Healing Abutment Placement

(4-6 Months After Implant Placement)

After the implant has healed, the area of the implant will be numbed with local anesthetic and a small incision will be made. The doctor will place a “button” over the implant to allow access for your general dentist to make the crown, soon after.

Dr. Joyce is one of the best dental surgeons I know. The bedside behavior?? I was completely calm and he made it 1000x better. They even played my favorite station on Amazon Music with Alexa. 😭 It was amazing.
